>New drive doors/covers can be bought, but they're very pricey. Do a search >on eBay for "1400 CD".
Easiest fix is to screw the door directly to the drive. First, make a set of "transfer screws". These are standard 2mm (IIRC) screws with the heads removed and with the stub end turned to a point. Next, remove the screws which retain the printed circuit board on the drive front. Next, install the transfer screws, leaving their pointed ends a little "proud". Next, carefully place the door in its normal position, pressing it against the drive, which, in turn, will cause the location of the points to be marked on the back of the drive door. If not mark(s), make the transfer screws a little prouder, and try again. After the screw locations are determined, drill a clearance hole for the screws in the door, at the places marked. Remove the transfer screws and install the door, using longer 2mm screws, thereby sandwiching the printed circuit board between the drive door and the drive. Such screws may be obtained at some general hobby shops, or more particularly at model railroad shops. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
