Hi. Bruce.
You should be able to control and configure the ABS from the wired or
wireless side. I think this link will tell you how to configure the ABS via
the Ethernet port http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58584
I've discovered that I can use the Airport control program on my OSX Mac to set it up. I did that and now it's working fine with my 5300.
Be sure to check out the Java utilities that let you configure the ABS. With MRJ 2.1.1,and above, they will work on OS 8 or above.
I am at work so I don't have access to all my links, but you should be able
to find a link to the Java utilities from here:
http://www.vonwentzel.net/ABS/index.html
or here.

Thanks, nice resources!
I wonder, are you going to try an put you 540 on Wireless??
I may. Allegedly my card is supported on the 68k 540c, but I was never able to get it to work. The tech at proxim suggested I try a firmware upgrade on my card (A Lucent Silver) which I finally got around to last week in an unsuccessful attempt to get it working on a PC through our Cisco WAPs here in the college. (a weird problem that I think resides in the Cisco boxes, not my system, since it associates properly, authenticates properly, but the Cisco is not passing along the DHCP request for some reason, and so it isn't getting an IP address. It's something on the cisco because when we were testing them it did work)
