Hello. I have a PB 3400c With some dead pixels. I have a few questions
about them. How come they are there?

They are manufacturing defects and/or post-manufacturing damage.

Is there any way I can prevent them?

Keep the kid with the black indelible marker away from the screen! :)

Can I get rid of them?

I dont know if this is urban legend or not, but you might be able to unfreeze them, by _gently_ rubbing the spot with a soft cloth.
Otherwise, there is nothing you can do to prevent or fix a dead pixel.

Actually, that can sometimes, albeit rarely, work.

Depends on where the pixels are too. If they're off in a corner or on the screen's edge, you can sometimes just get used to them. Otherwise, a screen replacement may be necessary. The 3400c is so old... Might be worth picking up something newer off the Swap list and just moving your HD over.

I believe that with new PB/iB's, Apple will only replace the screen if there are 3 dead pixels in the center zone. Not sure how many in total, including edges there have to be.
