If you're getting an A: prompt, then the problem is that someone has secretly replaced your Powerbook 190 with a cheapo PC laptop. ;-)
These are classic signs that the power connector is loose inside the PB. Open it up, resolder it, and put a bug glob, as other posters have said, of hot glue over it. Epoxy also works well.
