>Thanks, but is simply this one the modification made by the MCE for 99 USD?
No, this is a modification I developed quite independently of MCE. I've never seen any MCE product, save the "media plug in" for my Wallstreets, which was actually an obsolete VST product, remarketed by MCE after VST killed it. A reasonably useless product as the only media this product will accommodate is a hard drive, and a 40 GB hard drive now costs half what this MCE product costs. >I thought that the problem was not only the insertion of the cards >but also the grounding. Grounding is only a problem with certain Cardbus cards. Early Cardbus cards had no provision for shielding, anyway. >The main problem with these modifications is that the card is not >recognized if in place at the boot: does the MCE modification(s) >solve this problem, that for some user is pretty annoying? Whether or not card mounting is a problem is a function of the card and its driver, not the card cage modification. Cardbus cards which will not mount on my modified 3400s or 3500 will not mount on my Wallstreets, either, and with precisely the same symptoms. Similarly, Cardbus cards which will always mount in my Wallstreets will also always mount in my 3400s and 3500, too. >>The link below is a photomacrograph of a Cardbus-modified 3400 card cage. The above is a photo of my modification, not MCE's. In order to get at the keys in order to remove them, you have to remove the main PCB from the machine, and remove the card cage shield, too. Press back and latch the upper card ejector, and proceed to remove the keys using a "paring" type tool. Unlatch the top ejector, and test both card slots for proper insertion and ejection. These functions should be perfectly smooth, without binding, on either Cardbus or PCMCIA cards. Reassemble in reverse order. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
