I finally, after a false start or two, got my hands on an MCE Wallstreet optical expansion bay. I ended up with the rarest of the rare, thier CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive.
I immediately took it apart and examined its interface PCB, pics here: <http://mywebpages.comcast.net/macdan/mce_optical_ebm.html> What's cool, and of interest to this list, is the fact the interface board also works fine in the 3400, as well as (I assume) Kanga. I swapped the IF board onto a Matshita CW-8121 ex-TiBook slotloader and stuffed it into a 3400's EB. Booting from a OS 8.5 CD, here's the ASP details. . . . Machine ID:. . . 306 . . .
