A Powerbook 190 will not be able to run OS 8.6. People on this list long ago told me that its upper limit is 8.1. Sorry, but a 190 is a 190. I've got a 190 myself (and as it stands now, I've learned that either I need a new power supply for it, or a 5300c, since from the looks of things, it'll cost about the same to replace the power supply as it would to get a 5300c, in which case I might as well get a 5300c, right?). In any case, Caleb, if it interests you, here's what I was using with my 190 (running OS 7.5.2 originally, then upgraded to 7.5.5) to go online: FreePPP dialup to my ISP, with a Megahertz PCMCIA card modem. It's only a 14.4K modem, but it has an X-jack which I thought was really nice. ;-) And quite frankly, the location I was using it gave me a slightly better web experience than I was getting at home with my 7200/120 on a 56K modem! Plus -- iCAB 2.9.8 browser, my POP3 email client, AIM and IRCle. Originally, I had hoped to use Netscape as my browser, but I never could get a version of Netscape which would NOT crash or hang my 190, so that's how I ended up with iCAB. Yes, iCAB is slow and sometimes hangs or freezes (In addition to using it on the 190 I was also using it on my 7200, and then the G3 I got, though for now I'm back on the 7200), but it gets me where I need to be. ~Yersinia. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
