Any electronic Engineers out there care to give a thought to this?
Have you tryed the contact cleaner idea? --
I think I might try this can I get the cleaner at maplins and what sort of brush do I use.

Maplins? Sounds familiar ,maybe from my Amiga Days. Are you in the UK? Or Netherlands?
In nothing else an old toothbrush. Some electric shavers had a tiny twisted wire brush like a bottle brush/ :Ask Maplins they may have something.
Be sure to do it in a well vented area or outside.
Repeat at least 3 times . The crud can be stubborn. Tobacco smoke especially.
I only damaged plastic once with this method and that was a circuit board. It only dulled the finish. Did not hurt the electronics. This is in dozens of times.
Let dry before you put it back together. Not much chance of fire from spark just a precaution.
You have inspected wires etc.
Be sure to get all contacts. . So the motherboard plug,cable ends and the drive would be 4 places to spray. Add 2 places for each drive and connector.
Get the power supply wires too.
All it takes is one pin not getting contact to keep the machine from running. If this doesn't help and the parts still work in the other machine i would look at the power supply or . . . .?
