I didn't say you'd want to do it, just that you could.

I don't think you even need to fiddle with LEDs, just let the light from the backlight through.

Does that involve cutting out some of the foil on the back of the LCD ? Does that reduce the brightness of the screen ?

"I don't know." to either question. I've heard of this being done but don't have any details.
