<I have a 5300cs with two completely dead batteries (one was used up, the
other I
received when I purchased a refurbished unit and won't work because of
its age).
I'm just wondering if I'm going to wreck my PB if I leave a dead battery
in the bay;
it never gets warm and there's no sign of leaking. I'm leaving it in to
keep dust
and other debris out of the computer.>

Well -- when it comes to my Powerbook (5300c, but I have a 190 too), I
like that old cliche, "better safe than sorry." Which means -- not only
wouldn't I leave a dead battery in my PB, but I'd get rid of them
outright if I were you. Battery acid is nasty stuff, you know.

Since you say BOTH your batteries are dead, GOOD batteries for 5300/190
Powerbooks (Model No. M3254, NiMH) can be had cheap from Nexcomp:

And since my 190 is semi-retired on the count of having gotten a 5300c,
I'm storing it (battery bay empty) in a bedside drawer which normally
stays closed to keep it clean.
