Ok--what should I be looking at first?

I had a bad plug on my AC adapter coupled with a loose power connection on the motherboard. Took the computer apart, soldered the connection, replaced the plug, and turned on the computer. All I got was a cycling "click." Maybe I fried the power board. Swapped one in from a sprare 5300cs I happened to have. No luck. Ok, the computer may be fried. Decided I wanted the 5300c monitor vs the cs for the active display.

I've had some trouble getting the RAM module to mate - finally did. But having major problems:

Sometime the computer starts up in a "negative" black and white mode.
Sometimes it starts up in grayscale and then goes to color.
Sometimes it won't start at all and I have to use the reset button--which may take several times to work--with or without the GLOD.
A few times I've gotten the multi-chime sad mac
Sometimes the keyboard will act normally, sometimes it won't auto-repeat keys, such as the backspace and arrow keys. Several times the computer will start up but quit if I adjust the screen during the startup (but is ok afterwards) Several times today the screen goes dark, but adjusting the contrast will bring it immediately back to where it was, except for the 2 times when I had to reboot completely. (I have opened up the computer and reseated the screen connection.)

Is it time to start looking for a new machine? Any suggestions on what I mayI've gotten some good usage out of these 5300's and really can't afford a newer machine.

 Later.................Howard
