I am trying to boot up my old 1400, in order to sell it, but am having difficulty. First of all is the power supply- it seems to be very finicky these days, and if I move it, the computer loses power (batteries are discharged since I haven't used them in quite some time). This normal?
No, something inside is loose or there is a bad wire.
Second, and most important, the fact that the last few times I've booted up everything seems to work fine, until the desktop is nearly fully loaded, then the monitor shuts off. The rest of the computer keeps running, and I can hear an error message pop up, though I have no idea what it says. I noticed that the clock was off when I loaded the 1400 earlier, could the PRAM be dead, and that's what's causing this? It doesn't just blink off, it's more like the computer is consciously shutting it down Assuming I can get it running right again, I need to access the laptop, is there anyway to do this from an OS X computer?
When the screen goes black adjust hhe brightness buttons on the side. Someone said this indicates a bad PRAM battery.
