Apologies. Opened mouth before engaged brain. Shift + Fn + Ctl + Power-on resets the Power Manager on PowerBooks. If you are having trouble with your batteries, and you are on a Lombard or later, then Open Firmware commands may be of help. Essentially, OF is a FORTH-like interpretive language, and it has a shell, of sorts. reset-all is one of the available OF "words" (interpreted commands). I am just beginning my "new world" experiences, what with the recent acquisition of an eBay Lombard/400 MHz/DVD and a local flea market B&W/450 MHz/DVD. Also, a planned upgrade to 10.3.9, via 9.2.2, from 9.2.1. Advice and warning for Lombard/Pismo owners ... Although I have had VERY good results with Samsung 5,400 rpm, 8 MB cache drives in my Wallstreet II PBs, these WILL NOT work in Lombard/Pismo PBs as the Samsung drives WILL NOT throttle back from ATA-6 (nor will the newer Toshibas, either). Get a Hitachi/IBM 5K80 series, instead. The "sweet spot" for laptop hard drives is now at 60 GB, with Samsung drives coming in at about $85, and Hitachi/IBM drives coming in at about $90. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
