Clear enough?
Clear but not correct. The reason Ken gives is an answer to the
question, "Why doesn't LEM post and distribute Apple service
manuals?" The question Gary asks is, "Why is posting of any URLs of
Apple service manuals...strictly forbidden on all LEM lists?"
The policy is more for self-serving reasons than for compliance with
copyright laws. You see, it's not that Apple would or could shut
down LEM because of a published URL leading to a website where the
manual might be distributed. That's not illegal anymore than
publishing a hot link to a subversive or hate site. It's a policy
because Apple can and will shut down any website where their
copyright material is made available for unlicensed distribution.
Our list mom just doesn't want to make it easy for Apple or wants to
protect the access to such sites. Take your pick.
Bottom line is the same: don't post those URLs to LEM. One could ask
the membership to send the URL off-list. Remember if you answer such
a request and don't know the inquisitor, you might be playing right
into an Apple agent's hands. IF they're smart, Apple monitors all
Macintosh-only sites.
