Hi All,
New to this list and new to the Powerbook world. I just purchased a
Powerbook 100 in good condition from eBay, with the following issue:
The hard drive is not seen. I have tried Disk Setup and SCSIProbe
4.3, and neither can see the drive. When the drive spins up, it makes
the sound like it's trying to initialize, but it can't, then it tries
again, and then it boots from the floppy. It's almost like the hard
drive is "stuck". Any hopes of reviving this thing?
Thanks for the links and support guys. I ended up downloading some
utilities from the System 6 Heaven page
(http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/compatible.html - click Disk and File
cat.) I downloaded them and then copied them over the network to my LC
475 (OS 8) then switched to Printer port networking (with PB 100 booted
from system 7.5 Network access floppy). I ran Schuzzy, which saw the
drive, then SCSI Evaluator, and ran a test. The drive made a long
cllllick (almost like a purr) but never managed to completely
initialize. It sounded like the drive head was stuck. So i did some
banging and tapping, same result (for now). I grew impatient of the
drive test in Evaluator, and I couldn't find a cancel button. So I
forced a restart. It ejected the floppy, but kept booting up!
So, to make a long story short, I'm not sure if the tapping/banging or
the SCSI Evaluator test worked, but I don't really care, the drive now
operates correctly :-)
Thanks again,
Kyle-
