Well, since I got my new PowerBook 520c, the hard drive has made the
same noise as my old one did, so I just assumed that it was a noise
all of them made. But, nothing can ever go right. Last night, I turned
the PowerBook on and the hard drive hesitated to spin up, and then
made a high pitched squealing noise for a fraction of a second. Then,
it spun up like normal. It's working perfect right now. Is this one
toast too? Thanks!

Mine did that a number of times before it died (over a period of abut a month, it happened with increasing frequency, then it wouldn't boot up.)

That high-pitched squeal is the bearing on the platters, most likely. Keep an eye on it. If it happens again, I'd start looking for a replacement drive, or a replacement Powerbook. (given a replacement drive for one costs more than the powerbook probably did)

Some folks have successfully used the SCSI-ATA bridges for the 500 series, so it fits, but again, those things are expensive (and probably rare by now, too).
