Very possible: if you have the ability to do so, check the output voltage when 
you rattle it.
If this passes, check the integrity of the connector (may necessitate the 
dismantling of your PB, a delicate exercise).
I would even take apart the adapter (not when plugged-in !!!) to see what is 
loose inside. It sounds like someone dropped it, it opened (that is one way to 
crack open the case) and taped back.

I never thought of this before, but could my AC adapter be the reason
my batteries aren't charging? These ones did the exact same thing the
ones in my other PowerBook did and this is the same adapter. If I
shake it it makes a rattling noise, it's held together with tape, and
my PowerBook just randomly shuts off. Thanks.
