From what I've seen, it's not uncommon for non-Apple drives to not be
recognized--I'm not surprised that Apple's software would refuse to see it
either. Your best bet would be to get ahold of something like
SilverLining--it'll set up the drive so it'll be usable by your 'book.
(I've used it for upgrading drives in both my 520c and 5300c.)
