The limit will be around 250-255 mHz.
Although faster 604e CPU's were mounted on the daughtercards,
they were mounted on cards which aren't compatible with other than
the 'Kansas Mac 8600's and 9600's.

PowerLogix and Newer built 250 mHz daughtercards, based on the 233 mHz
CPU and PowerLogix had an adjustable variation that allowed tweaking to the
limit . I had my PowerCenterPro up to 262 mhz before it locked up, but
it also froze randomly until I had lowered the speed to around 252 mHz. If
my ram dimms had been matched and my cache card faster, the practical limit
may have been higher, but c'est la vie...

There are two caveats with the faster daughtercards.
First is that the cache module on the PowerCenter is 512k and the high end
cards prefer fast 1mb cache cards.
Second is that the 'Apple' branded daughtercards won't work in the PowerCenter
or other 'Catalyst' board based PowerComputers due to lack of a 'drty' line.

In the old days (1997) this type of upgrading would have cost thousands...today
it doesn't make sense not to pick up a high end 604e for the PowerCenter's if
one cannot afford a G3. It's like dropping a V8 engine in a riding mower...
