If the ram was installed 6 weeks ago and the problems have been occurring
only within the last ten days, that would seem to discount the ram as the
culprit.

It's easy enough to check out the ram by pulling it and seeing if the
problem still exists.

I'm more inclined to think that the root of the problem is the Canvas
install/uninstall.
Check for any fonts that were installed, as a recent message tracked some
weird freezes
to a corrupted font.

Try trashing the finder preferences and rebuilding the desktop as a simple
first step.
