I have used buggy Powerbases in the past--in fact, I have two of them, but
they now seem to work OK. Why? I'm not really sure, but after I acquired
them from their fed-up owners, I carefully cleaned the entire inside of the
cases and all of the components and cards with compressed air. The design
of the case seems to make the computer not only noisy but a *major* dust
magnet as well. I suppose this could account for the computer working OK
for a while, then crashing a lot, too. Now they work fine--I can't say it's
cause and effect, but it's worth a try.

Tim Cunningham

PS I am also using OS 8.6.1 successfully.
