I've been having this intermittent problem on my PowerTower 225 Pro
for a couple of years now. It seems that the CD-ROM refuses to show
up on the desktop when a disk is inserted. I've tried everything
from using CDT to updating CD drivers from Apple -- currently using
Mac OS 8.5.1. Even had a Mac tech look at it and he found no
problems. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. End of story...
Has anyone else had this problem? My workaround was to just buy an
external SCSI CD burner/reader and use that instead. It usually
works, although I still have to use SCSI probe sometimes to make sure
the disk mounts.
FTR, my system:
PowerComputing PowerTower Pro 225, 604e processor, 256mb RAM, 2 2gig
narrow SCSI on internal SCSI bus (one is system drive), 2 18gig
seagate barracudas on PCI JackHammer (SE-B) Slot F2, USB PCI card,
Media100 card (vincent 601, "dormant" -- works fine but not being
used -- will be for sale soon), twinturbo 128 pci graphics,
PowerComputing 17-inch monitor, etc.
