Your next conundrum is whether to try and track down a 1MB PCP cache dimm,
either on eBay
or
http://www.galaxyhp.com/memory_cache.html for $69
or, alternatively...the lowend G3's are now running just over $125 or so
eg

shows a G3/400 w 512mhz cache for $169
and they pop up on ebay quite often around $100 plus

The cache module stores recent data from the cpu for fast retrieval. It
seems that
one of the things that is stores there is monitor information. Hence, if
the Cache dimm
screws it acts as a gate between the CPU and other components rather than
an expressway.

Cache and other memory modules are highly susceptible to damage from static
electricity...
could have been damaged quite a while back and decided that now was the
time to quit.
not worth worrying about.
just consider that you can now buy a G3 upgrade for little more than what
it used to cost for the cache alone, and it's far faster than a CPU and
inline cache to boot.
