Hi Robert,
As long as I know the Powerbase was strictly EDO, or at least designed for EDO, but if Andy Loy is running it with FPM RAM all those certainties go to the trash. The models that didn't like EDO were the 7200/75 and 7200/90, someone claims the 7200/120 can take EDO. As PowerCenters, PowerTowers and PowerCenterPros are based on the Catalyst design they should share the same characteristics including the RAM controller. - THEORETICALLY - things should work like this: Catalyst systems have 4 RAM slots, take up to 512MB of 4k refresh (or better) FPM RAM and do not interleave memory. Tanzania boards and derivatives (5400/5500/6400/6500/PowerBase, Umax c500/600) have 3 RAM slots, do not interleave and are limited to 160MB of RAM (2 x 64MB and 1 x 32MB) of, I thought, 2k refresh (or better) EDO RAM. TNT/Tsunami and Kansas LB have between 8 and 12 RAM slots, do interleave memory and take between 1 and 1.5GB of 4k refresh (or better) FPM/EDO RAM. All systems above take 5V DIMMs 70ns (60ns is better, and required for most G3/G4 upgrades). Apparently all that seems to be very theoretical since obviously everyone has his/her own RAM mix recipe, and it works for him/her. Did you miss the big FPM vs EDO conflab ? Most think EDO won't work on your machine. Others claim it is working on theirs, as we speak. Some even claim the EDO Dimms will smoke your mother board. ________________________________________________________ From: "Andrew Loy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Powerbase memory issue Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 10:42:25 -0500 I'm using 1 32MB and 2 64MB FPM DIMMs in my PowerBase 200.... No problems I would pulll the new 64MB stick and see what happens. If allll is well send it back and try a 64MB FPM. Andy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
