Oh, the price of upgrading...

I recently got it into my head that I wanted to replace my PowerCenter
150 with a 7500, figuring I'd move the G3 upgrade and memory over.

The PowerCenter had 112mb of RAM- an unknown 16mb DIMM and 3 32mb DIMMS
purchased on a special from ComputerGeeks. The 16mb DIMM went over with
no difficulty; it's the 32mb ones that are the problem- they physically
won't fit the 7500 slots!

The 3 in question were apparently made for Compaq and have Compaq part
numbers. They were sold to me as 168-pin FPM DIMMS with no warranty of
usability in a PowerMac or clone.

In the PowerCenter, they fit in the sockets and ran for over a year with
no obvious problems. In the 7500, however, they would not seat properly
in the DIMM sockets.

If I compare the 16mb DIMM with one of them, however, I can see why.
Holding the DIMMS side by side, I can see that one of the guide notches
(the one between the longer sections of pins) is offset from its
counterpart on the other DIMM. Interestingly, it is not completely
offset, there is a small overlap (apparently enough of one to let it sit
in the DIMM sockets of the PowerCenter).

So I'm wondering... Are there any RAM experts out there who have seen
this before? What kind of RAM do I have, anyway? It must be close to
correct since the PowerCenter liked it (IIRC, putting the wrong memory
in a Catalyst board is pretty much fatal.), but still...

Also, anybody know any vendors who might swap me this memory toward the
cost of some of the correct memory?

Thanks...
