That presents a strong case to:

a) not rush to upgrade an OS without a compelling reason, or

b) try the somewhat more universal Apple CD-ROM driver 5.3.1 from OS 7.6, or

c) try hacking the Apple CD/DVD driver from OS 9.x, or

c) buy a product such as Intech CD/DVD Speedtools, which seems to be more
braodly compatible with a range of drives and OSes than FWB.
