I'm pretty sure the .art file is a proprietary America Online graphics format.
I think a download/install of AOL software will let you open the.art. I have a few .art files that I have tried to open/convert and have not been succesful. I have opted not to install teh AOL software on my Powerbook, b/c AOL dialer/scheduler, etc used to wreak havoc on my desktop clone and I'd rather not deal with that...especially since I no longer use AOL.
