I hate PCs, I aquired a PC Power base 200, Power center Pro Mini Tower 180, Quadra 800, Mac SE, and Mac another mac similar to the SE but I cant remember what it is and I'm to lazy to go look on the front of it and find out (comes from being a nerd I think)
Anyways, these Power computing macs are great! I love them. BIG questions though, I think I'm lik edoing somethin gI shouldnt, but being a PC guy I'm not sure. I bought a Newer technology Maxpower upgrade cpu card (604e at 180-210 MHZ adjustable) I bught it for the power base as it has a 603e 200 cpu and I read on this list that 604e cpus were real screamers. So I put it in the power base and it wouldn't "chime", what ever chimeing means I dont know but I assume its akin to the stupid Beep PCs make when they pass POST. Anyway, nothing happened, I put back in the old cpu and it worked fine. In system profiler it says the power base is like a Mac 7400 or something like that, well the only macs that are listed inthe manual for this cpu card are lik e7500 and up, so I think that might be why it didn't work, I tried lots of combonations with the four dip switch on the cpu, but nothing, SO I decided to put it in the PCP 180, its strange they call it a 180 cause system profiler says it has a 604e 195 CPU in it, what ever. SO I set the dip switches for 210 Mhz and 60 Mhz and it boots hella faster. So I decide to put the 604e 195 cpu in the ower base... Nothing happened, is like the 604e vs 603e like a PII vs a PIII caus rhtose can be interchangable? ALSO darn it, the max power cpu is to tall to allow the stupid cooling fan for the CPU to be attatched to THE CASE, why they would attatch it to the case instead of the heatsink is beyond me but now it dont fit, is it needed to keep the cpu from over heating? God I hope not, caus eits on downstairs, but I left the case open with the fan kinda just laying on the heat sink, darn it. Also where can I get like 128 MB 5 volt RAM sticks for these things for like $5 a stick? None of the piles of my pc ram will fit, I think they're 3.3 volt. Both my machines are running OS 8.6, does anyone suggest upgrading to OS 9? if so where can I get that for free? or like $5... Anyway, some of you guys are pretty funny on the list, and you seem to know what your doing, I'm like a friggin genious for PCs but this is my first real endevor into the mac world... Also where can I get FWB cdrom tool kit 3.0.2 or somehting like that, I hav eit on the hard drive but need to reinstall it but I cant find my serial number as I dont have the manual cause someone gave me these machines, so I'm loading the cdrom driver across the network from the extension on my other macs hard drive that has cdrom toolkit on it that works...
