Hi, I sure could use some advice/help with my latest problem with my PowerCenter Pro 240 (now with: Sonnet G3 500, 512MB Ram, OS 8.6).
I recently installed a generic Firewire card (OWC) and the apple drivers (2.33) and my pcp did not recognize this under apple sys profiler. ( btw, i do have a Keyspan USB 1.1 card that works just fine). I thought that maybe with a Firewire device hooked up to the card, that I might be able to "see" and use the card. Unfortunately for me, after unsuccessfully trying a QPS CD-RW on this card, my pcp now balks at every boot with the subject error.....bus error. This error occurrs immediately after the "Welcome to Mac OS" window. The Firewire card was in my last available PCI slot; I removed this card and rebooted, again, getting the bus error crash immediately after the "Welcome to Mac OS" window. Everything I have read about this error relates to a potential extension conflict or possibly corrupt system software (Finder). Now here is my main problem...If I try and boot from a CD using the ctrl-option-shift-del start-up sequence, my PCP acts very erratically - it boots successfully maybe once for every 10 attempts. Has anyone had this problem? The CD I am using is the original PCP CD with Sys Folder, I have also been able to boot successfully once with Norton 4.0 CD to check the drives and defrag. But once I reverted my startup to the hard drive, I am in this endless loop from hell. My plan was to reinstall my System software (8.6), in the event that it became corrupt..... if I could ever boot from the CD..... Any help or insight into this problem would be most appreciated! mac-less in Raleigh, John -- Power Computing is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Power Computing list info: <http://lowendmac.com/power/list.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/powercomputing%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
