Virtually any upgrade should work in the processor slot. Downgrades usually don't. I have used 120Mhz 604 (from 9500), 233Mhz604e(PowerWave),250Mhz604e(Powerlogix), and 400MhzG3(Sonnet) in 8500,9500,PowerCurve and PowerWave. I know the original powercurve 120Mhz 601 will not boot other machines.
