Hi,

I have done something awful to my PowerBase, for which I should be
taken outside and beaten to death with a Dell. I have a twin 200 mHz
604 CPU card from Newer, intended for the 7500 family of motherboard.
I attempted to install it in my Power Computing PowerBase 180, which
(now that I have done my belated research) uses a completely
different motherboard, similar to the 6400 family.

Now the machine refuses to boot with either CPU, although promisingly
it does give me a chime and hard drive and CD drive activity with the
original CPU. That's as far as it gets though. I have tried
multiple PRAM zaps, removing the PRAM battery, pressing the reset
switch, and forcing a boot from the Power Computing CD, all to no
avail. The screen doesn't spring to life and give me my happy mac
icon.

The Newer card comes with a floppy with a couple of INITs on it which
must be loaded prior to booting - should I try moving the HD to
another machine and deleting the INITs? Will these INITs have done
something to the firmware on the PowerBase, and if so, is it
reversible?

What's the correct key combo for forcing a CD boot? I've been
holding down "C" which works on other models.

Can anyone help me here? All suggestions will be entertained.

Cheers,
