Hi Wayne, Why don't you simply move the 7500's CD drive to the PTP, no more drivers hassle, just plug'n'play.
You'll find an older CD drive for the 7500, any CD from the first Powermacs onward (tray loading) will work. I know the 7500 CD is only 4x, but for most things it is enough. Unless you can get your hands on a newer dead PCI Powermac from where you could get a faster CD for the PTP.
