<< The only problem I have now is the stock CD Drive isnt recognized by the

CD. I am just

dealing with an unsupported drive or did I forget to do something? >>

We just dealt with this problem over the past weekend. The stock CD player,
it turns out, was not an Apple item but an after-market brand, so Apple's
disk utility didn't recognize it. FWB CD Rom Tool Kit did the trick. So
it's not you.

Our Power Tower Pro 250 has been giving us nothing but problems for three
months and has been in the shop more than it's been out. Finally a friend of
ours spent the weekend with us and trouble-shot the entire system. Now
everything seems to be working fine (keep fingers crossed, it's only been two
days!). The problem seems to have been memory. We had 128 megs of RAM, and
things were just crashing left and right; we got system bombs and green
screens so often we nearly gave in to depression. We have now added another
128 megs and the machine seems much happier. I suspect that the size of the
programs we tend to run (Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, After Effects,
Premier, SoundEdit, as well as Word) was just outstripping the ability of the
128 megs of RAM to handle it. Also AOL seems to have contributed
significantly to the problem. Seems like such a simple problem now that it
appears to be fixed, but the repair shop couldn't solve it in three tries.
It can be very frustrating.

As for the quietness of the list, it's only the past few days. It was quite
lively before that. However, there are people on this list who are really
knowledgeable about hardware systems, and it's a little intimidating for some
of us who are, like ourselves, primarily users, only interested in what the
machine can help us accomplish, and are not hip to hardware, gadgets, box
cracking, constant upgrades and such. Therefore, I think you'll find that
people tend to post only when they have a problem because they don't want to
look stupid. Thank goodness this little community exists, and that we have
some gurus out there who are willing to share their knowledge and answer
questions! You are all appreciated.

Monica
