If it's a drive where the ejection actuator button/lever/gizmo/whizbanger is
hard to hit when poking around through that little hole with a paperclip, then
maybe power off is a good idea. Paper clips are excellent conductors of
electricity. Not that voltages tend to be dangerously high in that particular
area, but if your paper clip is long enough and you poke around in there deeply
enough you might  possibly, depending on the design of the drive, short
something out and fry some integrated circuit or something. A stubborn drive
might be even more uncooperative after that. -- Bob C.
