Only multi-sync monitors will provide more resolutions than default 640 x 480. You may be using a TT128 card pulled from a 9600 in which case it needs to be driven by Apple's 9600 accelerator extension - won't work with TT drivers unless you swap EPROMs. ATI Radeon display control panel begins to works only with 9.2.1 or 9.2.2.
