My problem turned out not to be bad cache DRAM, but I think the PRAM
battery just needed to be taken out and then reseated. I couldn't zap the
PRAM from the keyboard, so apparently this did the equivalent. I was on my
way to buy a new battery when it occurred to me that this old one should be
checked. Turns out the voltage was as good as a brand new battery, so I
went back home, popped it in, and VOILA - the computer booted up normally
(it just forgot what time it is).

Glad I learned here about other things I can try if this ever happens
again. (Of course, that'll never happen! :-)

Thanks for all your help, folks.

Allan
