I have always used both cdrom toolkit and apple cd drivers to recognize the internal cdroms and I use radiologic drivers to recognize the external firewire cd/rw.
Now here's another interesting tidbit. When I put a music cd in either of the internal drives, Apple cd audio player starts up just fine and seems to be playing the music cd, but no sound comes out! When I put a music cd in the firewire drive no music comes out, but there's no progress of the the time counter, either, although the Apple cd audio player recognizes that a music cd is available.
Thanks, Scott
Does the PTP recognize CDs? If you put one in the CD player, does it show up on the Desktop? Could be that the Apple CD/DVD driver doesn't recognize the non-Apple OEM CD player, and that you need to install a third-party CD driver.
