This might sound kinda stupid, but... Since it sounds
like the powercenter is a desktop (right?), I know you
can get either a WAP-11 (that's the dlink or linksys
name) or another brand made from the same innards
(uses the same cool firmware upgrade too) for less
than 50 dollars. These things could be thought of as
something that will take your wireless connection back
to ethernet. Then add a twist over ethernet cable and
walla! A totally platform independent wireless network
card. You can use SNMP sw, or I believe some other
kind of interface, mabye telnet, mabye web browser, to
modify the setup. Like for instance, you might want to
tell it what the SSID (name) of your wireless network
it. I used one of these for -transmitting- a wireless
connection (a wireless access point), and another one
for -recieving- from a location about 100 feet away
that same signal (very similar to a USB wireless
external dongle, but without the USB). I know the
original transmitter is probably still up in John's
attic in Tempe, AZ. I have little idea where the
reciever is today. These are identical pieces of
hardware, when upgraded with a more progressive
manufacturer's firmware (linksys), became
multifunction devices, that act like a WAP or a remote
node, depending on how they are set through the SNMP
manager ( a little GUI app)
Cheers.
