Point of information - there is a difference between booting with the "C"-key and the cmd-shift-opt-del keys sequence (admitted to me by an Apple Tech so many years ago that I don't recall WHY or HOW). But I do remember that the multi-key sequence is preferential and more powerful - providing more options and flexibility once you boot up. Realize, this procedure is hardly ever followed unless you already have some sort of system problem, so the more you can do once you get back inside the machine and OS, the better!

Chuck Stinnett writes "Apple, not Power Computing, Macs can be booted
from CD by holding down just the C key". I beg to differ. When
booting from a CD, for example Norton Utilities CD for defragging
etc., I always boot up from that disc by holding down "C" on my Power
Center 150. It's always worked for me, ever since new.

I do stand corrected. I had relied on this information since reading in the
PowerTower (non-Pro) User's Guide section titled, To start up from a CD-ROM:
"You can remove the internal drive from the startup sequence (and force your
system to boot from a floppy or the CD-ROM if you have it in place) by
holding down the command, shift, option and delete keys when you start up."
[parenthesis theirs] page 75.

But I just booted my PowerTower from a Norton SystemWorks CD using the C
key, and it worked like a charm. (I booted from a Teac 516S CD-ROM drive,
which was not stock in the PowerTower but which I bought from someone who
removed it from a PowerTower Pro. I love that drive because of the way the
tray SHOOTS out of the case when you push the button!)

Interestingly, the PowerTowerPro User's Guide also directs you to use the
Command-Option-Shift-Delete sequence to boot from a CD (page 42).

Count me in with the C-key Crowd in the future!
