No experience with Linux.

However, you can certainly obtain a startup CD for the PowerBase. This
should work:

It will include the FWB Hard Disk Toolkit and CD-ROM Toolkit drivers that
are necessary for this clone to run the Mac OS. Not sure how that helps with
Linux, but it at least answers the question of obtaining a startup CD.
