So this fool, & newbee to this list, blew out the 12V side of my 300W power supply. Great!!

Wonder if anyone on this list has suggestion for direct replacement, or maybe better, higher watt PS?

Am familiar with the swaplist, but thot I might check with folks in the know, first.

So far it seems just about any ATX supply will work?

Seems like it wouldn't hurt to go for a 400 to 500 Watt unit?

Is the 3/8" space over the PS enough room for double fanned jobbies?

Finally had a really old PowerLogix G3 running pretty good (45 bus, 7.5 CPU ratio) with a Gig of new/cheap OWC memory, a Sonnet Tempo 100 card, a Radeon 7000, a USB 1.1 card & a Belkin wireless card. I believe the PTP has an older version board.

Decided to G4 it (for DVD playback & the voice command thing in X; for granny). Stuck in an XLR8 Mach Carrier MPe with an OWC 466 CPU.
Had lotsa troubles. OS X 10.3 won't write at any Bus/CPU config.
Always hangs on the writing files part of the X install, sooner or quicker depending on Bus/CPU settings. No errors reported, just hangs.

Using XPostFacto3.0b8.

Hauled out half the memory to de-interleave it.
I does seem like a RAM prob but I think the OWC (128MB 5V Mac 168 Pin DIMM, FPM buffered, EDO 4K Refresh (2K per bank) with guaranteed upgrade compatibility) DIMMs should be OK?
Tried most every PCI slot scheme imaginable.
Never did re-install the motherboard cache, tho.

OS 9's TechTool (yes, OS 9 cooks just fine, G4'ed) thot I had HD media troubles, but the sectors all check out fine with Apples Drive Setup.

So I replaced the Tempo 100 card with a Sonnet Tempo Trio, no luck.
The machine got to where it wouldn't even recognize my Radion 7000 card, so I put in an old Mach64.

Non-the-less I got sloppy about this time and arced a power plug to the case, now no PS. Tried a 200W from a PowerBase, but no chime or boot.

Am thinking, maybe I should try another brand of IDE card, after the new PS, of course. (I don't suppose I tried every slot/card configuration, tho. I should work out the permutations for 4 cards, 6 slots).

I remember trying a SIIG 66 card on a StarMax. It totally puked on it, so I traded off for this Sonnet 100, which worked fine, in that case. The OWC tech just shrugged...
Thot it seemed real 'touchy' in the G3 config, tho.

I'm pretty dedicated to IDE drives (a Maxtor 80 & 120GB on it for mp3's) so I wonder what you folks's mileage is on different PCI IDE cards, or maybe even SCSI-IDE bridge adapters?

Or maybe I should just trash the beast & find an old 95 or 9600 to put the guts in. From what I'm reading, they are not nearly as temperamental...?

Thanking you (in advance) for any help, suggestions, observations...,
Lou
