PowerMail *filters* doesn't seem to be able to reliably discern within
the substring of a word between "OT" or " OT " (As spaces are ignored).
For example in this subject line: "Re: [Ti] Intel cuts PC boot time",
which triggers the filter. I used "exact phrase" as well as "contains"
for " OT " (Notice the spaces).
That the common "(OT)" is considered to be the equal of "OT", because the
"(" and ")" are ignored as is the case when searching, is one thing if
"OT" is a also considered a indexable word, but as a substring as in
"subOTstring"? Hello?
I suppose these results must mean that the built search index isn't used
by filters either then, as searching for "(OT)" in the subject is futile
(except via Applescript), but it doesn't find substrings at least. If the
index indeed isn't used by filters and substrings are actually taken into
consideration by filters (which searches doesn't), then why can't PM
filters tell "(OT)", "OT" and 'nnotnn' from each other, if "ot" is the
string that one wants to filter on? It just doesn't make sense. Is it
because spaces are ignored also here? It seems to be that either
substring always do not work or do work including spaces, "(", ")" and
other characters.
What's at play here giving these results?
At any rate, filtering for parts, such as "(OT)" for example, in subjects
is very useful indeed and the absence of the ability to trigger a filter
with an exact representation, like " OT " or equivalent, is making me
very unhappy. Small things like this is really wearing you down, because
it seems to be so little to ask for and obviously it should have been
done right or at least coherently to begin with.
