got it. how about then accessing it via POP but setting the preferences
that 2 of the computers NEVER download from server and the computer that
should have the backup is basically the master and that one deletes
messages from server after 6 months or however long you think you need
access to all the mail from all the computers.

the reason I'm suggesting this is two-fold: when I yesterday switched
one of my accounts quickly to IMAP to test a possible copy filter out
for you, I noticed how terribly slow IMAP is - and we are on a T3 line
here, so it's not our connection. It could also have been my IMAP
settings, I didn't finetune anything for the quick test, but it seemed
somewhat... chunky, compared to POP3 and the other reason I'm suggesting
going with POP3 is because I was not able to get filters working with
the IMAP account - something which indeed I think curious as to why that
would be or what I did to have it all greyed out, but fact is that I was
not able to apply filters and so until I hear from somebody else
pointing out what I did wrong, I'm assuming you can not apply the move/
copy filter to your IMAP messages and thus POP3 would be the way to go -
as long as there is no binding reason as to why stay with IMAP.
