Thank you Hiro, and Bob, for you help getting me off mail.app back to
PowerMail where I rightly belong <g>.

It's so frustrating sometimes trouble-shooting on your own, and
having this community's support is no small benefit.

Bob,
I suppose the first thing I ought to do is obtain and the run
AppleJack, so I'll get on this ASAP.

. . . or, as Bob Moody points out I should repair permissions,
run cron scripts prebind, etc. using Maintenance 3.1.

Bob, I'm intrigued by your strategy of running mail and PowerMail
simultaneously, perhaps I'll try this later on.

Hiro,
Is there documentation on how I might fix a hosed bit in the
AppSupport directoy, and what file(s) to look at?

I was not aware of the Stuffit requirements for PowerMail 5.2.1.
I currently have installed Stuffit 9.01 and Stuffit 10.0 in my apps
folder.
Furthermore I see that Stuffit 10.0 is the default app for .stix files.

Do you know what version of stuffit I should make the default
application in Finder, or is this not the proper approach I should be
taking?

Well, now I'm off to VersionTracker to get AppleJack.

TIA for all the help.

John
