Thanks Karel, Tried that option... without success. In fact PM Support suggested the same thing. Downloaded Eudora, as its free, which succeeded in sending an email. This all leads me to think the problem lies somewhere with PM, though I've used it successfully for about 5 years without any such problems. The problem was on a iMac G5 running 10.4.3 and PM 4.2.1. The PM website wouldn't allow a new download of 4.2.1, or at least I couldn't access the web page which would have done. I'd wanted to do a clean install of PM as there's probably a corrupted preference somewhere in the Library folder which is causing the sending email problems. I created a new user environment, with empty In Tray and Out Tray, and this failed as well on sending emails. All this is quite strange, as computer problems often seem to be, so any suggestions gratefully received.
