So far I haven't had performance issues (have been using PM for roughly
three years now) - PM is pretty quick whatever I do (except for one
small issue: once in a while it takes several seconds to save an email
that I am just writing). Nevertheless I do not use the 3 pane mode, but
have the folder list in its own window and the recent mails window.
Other views are only opened as needed.

I have 250.000 (sic!) mails in my database, and usually keep it running
for one to two weeks before I quit (in order to once in a while reboot
my PowerBook G4 15" with 1.5 GB RAM). I have to compact the database
every few weeks as I am now nearing the 2 GB database limit.
