Jacques, Ah, if only this were that easy. Unfortunately, not only am I still using 10.3.8, but this problem has been growing for over a year. My first post about it here preceded 10.3.9.
It seems to be (in some way) related to time/scale/amount of stored email/file size/something. It's like PM is running on a 14.4 modem, on an SE, and the rest of my system is on OS X like it should be. It's very weird, and very troublesome. I'm spending *way* too much of my day waiting for PM. Thanks for the idea, though. Keep 'em coming...
