Given the return of the hard wrap vs soft wrap argument, I thought I'd bring something to your attention. I've just seen something I've always believed to be impossible: an incoming message with * NO * hard carriage returns inserted.
At work we use Blackberries connected via the Rogers wireless service available here in Canada. Over the weekend, I received a message from a colleague. When re-reading the message, I noticed the lines of text seemed to be longer than most. As I stretched the window larger, the text changed to fit! I examined the headers and found it was sent via Rogers' blackberry smtp server to my work e-mail account on a UNIX machine. No other hops were evident. It appears that it is the sending mail server(s) and not the receiving mail server that is responsible for changing the formatting. I must admit that this makes perfect sense to me as it is the sender who becomes responsible for ensuring adherence to the standards. By contrast, an e-mail sent from that same colleague's work account had hard returns inserted. Might the result have been different had there been other, 3rd party relays? -- Tim Lapin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
