When I get this message I do the first aid (command option when starting powermail) and compact the databases and rebuild sort indices. Then I do system maintenance including a rebuild permissions, all the cron scripts, reprebind, repair symbolic links, etc. on the system (I use Panther Cache Cleaner, but you can do this from the terminal or with Cocktail and other GUi's). The problem then stays gone for quite some time--usually several months. When it comes back I know it's maintenance time again. Powermail is a good bellweather for reminding us to do the necessary maintenance on our systems that we know to do but don't doas often as we should. It likes a clean, well maintained system to run on.
