On my machine it takes 3 seconds before a folder (is that what you refered to as "mailbox"?) displays 25 000+ messages. As of this date, I have 149 626 messages in several hundred folders in my DB. So I doubt your personal experiences have to be acceptable and nor are they to be considered normal operation of PowerMail 5, IMHO.
